Conservatories began as simple glass structures, mainly on farmhouses, to offer a space to relax and take in the sun during the summer months. Developed from timber and single panes of glass, their structure was weak, required constant maintenance, and during the cold Winter months, practically unusable.
As plastic and glass technology developed, and production costs dropped in the 1980’s, conservatory ownership in the UK boomed, although the legacy they left behind was the image of 50p shaped monstrosities that bore no relevance to the existing architecture of the house.
Modern conservatories now have more features than ever, and are available in many different sizes and styles to suit any property. Best of all, they can be used all year round. Our conservatories are put to many uses from breakfast rooms, rooms for entertaining guests, games rooms, and family rooms. The glass roof and walls let in plenty of light, and usually open up views of the garden.
The first thing to note, is that they’re not only available in white. Plastics can be green, blue, silver, black, or even in a realistic wood effect. They can even be different colours inside and out to satisfy planning regulations and blend with your property. |
The glass used in our conservatories is double glazed as standard, which retains heat and insulates against outside noise. We can also fit self cleaning glass to reduce on maintenance costs.
Due to the insulation properties of modern glass and cavity wall insulation, the conservatory usually doesn’t require heating in the summer months and many of our customers enjoy opening the doors wide and enjoying the benefits of fresh air circulation. During winter, our conservatories can be heated with standard or upright radiators, however, the most popular option is under-floor heating with easy to use digital controls. This saves breaking into the existing heating system and costs very little to run as well as maximising internal space.
Privacy is simple with a range of fitted blinds. Available in a wide range of colours and styles, they can be opened and closed manually, or you may opt to adopt a fully motorised system. Day or night, spring, summer, autumn or winter, a Space4Living conservatory is sure to become your favourite room of the house. |
