We decided to invest in an Orangery because a friend had got one. Prior to this we had a conservatory at the back of the house which was a waste of space. We decommissioned it for about half a year during the winter months because it was too cold. Using heaters and radiators for warmth solved the problem, but was too expensive.
We use the room like an extension of the kitchen. We eat here, play games on the Wii and the girls do their homework and watch telly in the evenings. It’s a general room. We even use it more than the lounge. The large glass roof let so much light in, that we had the blinds fitted in August / September last year by Rainbow Blinds who are now working in partnership with Space4Living.
Space4Living came up with the design. It’s practical, and allows us to open the room up in summer. The heating is simple yet effective. It’s double glazed with under floor heating. I usually leave the temperature set in winter on constant 17. You can get the temperature just right.
Space4Living designed our kitchen as well. The layout is great. We told them what we wanted and what appliances we wanted and Gill came up with around some great ideas.
We’ve lived here for 14 years in June from new. The extension has made us live in the property longer. Before the orangery, we were thinking, “is it time for a move?” We’ve been here a long time but we like the street we live in, it’s great for the kids.
The kids absolutely love it, we can pull out the Wii and they can play while I’m in the kitchen and we can talk. I love the room it’s nice, it’s private and you’re away from reality at the back of the house. The garden feels like its part of the house, and there’s still plenty of space to sit out in the summer. |
